>my talk runeth over…..

>I asked for a turn to speak in church. It’s been two years and I really need to speak at least once a year to feel fulfilled. I have an interesting topic, ‘Work as an eternal Principle’. I was told I had between 10 and 15 minutes, not even long enough to introduce the topic I figure I should have twice that since I’ve been given a two year respite. I have been diligently whittling my talk down. Thanks to years of speech classes I have good guidelines on staying within the time limit. (My speech Prof would just say ‘time’ and all we could do was finish our sentence.) The difficulty is keeping to the eternal nature of the subject, so as not to steal thunder from the speaker after me. I feel all my thoughts on the subject start with our temporal existence and lead naturally to the next life- therefore demanding a good sermon on the need of work now. This seems a silly thing to blog on, but it’s foremost in my mind (besides a child’s faltering grades in school, my ever expanding waistline, the complete imbalance of income to needed outgo financially, a house looking much like those after Katrina struck, and a toothache….)

    >You are good to ASK for a speaking assignment. I mean, don’t get me wrong: I, too, love the fulfilling feeling I get when I give a talk in Sacrament Meeting, but my nerves and jittery knees always end up getting in the way.

    >Kristie – you are so funny! So many things on your mind and you’re always willing to take more on, no wait, YOU ASK for more! I just love you. Good luck with your talk. I’m sure it will be awesome.
