Excellent Young Woman!

“The purpose of the Young Women organization is to help each young woman, ages 12 to 18, “come unto Christ” (Moroni 10:32).” This is a quote from LDS.org.  Recently the twins had their Young Women in Excellence program, a yearly program dedicated to the advancements made in their Personal Progress as well as to inspire them to continue.  This program is compared to the Scouting program for the young men.  It’s not an easy program to complete.  Eve has been working on a project for one of her values, and we get to enjoy it, until she gets her own place and moves out.

I was not able to attend the YW in Excellence program this last week, I had ‘stuff’.  Another reason I’m not up for mom of the year…yet again!

But I told Bill some thoughts I would like him to share for me.

The quote:  “No Other Success Can Compensate for Failure in the Home” By David O. McKay has had greater meaning of late as we take it from what the parents should be aware of to what every member of the family should be aware of.  The children are somewhat responsible for the success of a home.  The YW’s program helps the young women to look outside themselves, be aware of people around them, serve them, and care for them.  It used to be that one of my girls (and my sons as well – but this is not about them right now) would come into the kitchen while I was working and ask if there was anything they could do.  I was usually elbow deep in flour or onions, both sides of the sink would be full of dishes- as well as the drying rack, I would have a child under my feet not to mention all the stuff I drop. I just wanted to yell (and , I may have a couple of times) “Use your power of deduction!  What does it look like I need help with, JUST DO IT!”  Now I know, a kid coming in to help, I should’ve just been grateful for that (but we’re not talking about me right now).  Now they come in, take the drying towel off my shoulder, and just start helping.

For lack of a better way of saying it, I love this gospel because it has helped make my children more useful and fun to be around!

So here’s Eve’s project.  We found an old cupboard at Goodwill (OK – Bill found it, I would have never in a million years bought it)

I wish we had taken a picture of it at the very start.
