summer pool & IHS

OK- before you say anything I know I have to finish Days 12-14 on my 14 Day Walk with Christ, I will, I promise!  Let me explain a little as to why it hasn’t happened yet.

Final’s week ~ 3 kids in high school – my paws touched this computer less than Bill’s- and that’s practically nill!

Teaching ~ something wonderful happens during summer break, people go on vacation.  So I get asked to sub quite a bit.  So the little time I do have is spent studying for upcoming lessons.  I absolutely love teaching Sunday School – any age!  I was a little dissapointed when our Sunday School president passed around a sub list for people to sign up on.  I guess I can’t hog the teaching spotlight all the time:-)

Kid time ~ The days have been warm (like boiling warm) and the kiddie pool has been quite popular.  We did take a day and go out as a family to the reservoir which was great!  We didn’t take pictures because it was raining and we didn’t want to get the camera wet.  I found that if you want to go when there is no worry about a smoking swearing smelly man /woman who likes to yell at their kid from their perch right behind your blanket go when it rains, it clears a beach quickly…and heck, we’re wet from the water anyway, what’s a little rain going to do?This is what happens when I send my child into the pool in his diaper.  I now take the diapers off, I used to get those swimmers, but for how many times he goes out there’s no way I’m paying for them!!

Art~ Bill was juried into the Indiana Heritage Art Show (IHS) for the 3rd year in a row.  We were very excited to see he had 2 pieces accepted and had an award.  While one of the over $1000 awards would have been amazing, we gladly took the $300. award.  We had fun at the reception watching paintings on either side of Bill’s sell and listening to all sorts of people rave about Bill’s work, but it never sold.
Life~ I guess you might have gleaned from the ‘art’ part of the blog that I’m a little dissapointed.  I don’t know if you have ever played baseball (softball) but if so- the feeling is akin to hitting the ball, right in the sweet spot, knowing it was perfect hit, solid, way out there, and as you’re running to first base you hear someone say it was a pop fly into the foul zone.  Bill has been producing the best work of his life.  He just got into another amazing gallery – The Sigman’s.  It’s the ‘selling season’ at the galleries, yet all we hear are the proverbial crickets chirping.

Bill got a blessing today – in hopes of some guidance- (he’s about ready to apply to med school!).  It was a wonderful blessing and brought us much peace.  One thing that I thought was poignant was that our children are humble because of the circumstance in which they’ve been raised.  They know where their blessings come from and are so grateful for what they have.  Maybe if Bill had rocketed to the top echelons of  the art world and had the fame and fortune that accompany it (yes – believe it or not- there is fame and fortune in the fine arts!) we would be a different type of family.  Maybe this was the only way to raise 7 completely amazing children who have a work ahead of them that requires a certain amount of humility.  If that’s the case, then what a small sacrifice to have lived a simple yet challenging life.  We have fun together, we are very healthy, we are strong in our faith, we are happy.
