>food and family:-)

> About a year ago our Bishop gave us our yearly ‘Ward Goals’. (He and his wife have since moved to the tropical state of Utah:-) As he was listing off the goals I was paying attention closely, because I really try to follow his council and do them. He came to a new one, ‘Increase your food storage by three months worth’. If he had looked at me right then he would have probably noticed my mouth fall open and hit the pew. We have been living off our food storage, how in the heck could we increase it?! But I wrote down the goal with all the others and decided to work on the the best I could.

Around October of last year we had the ability to buy some food, around three months worth! During harvest a couple in our ward had us come pick the tomatoes and apples they couldn’t use, and we froze quite a bit, about three months worth, interesting isn’t it? Sometimes when we’re asked to do the impossible, we just have to use the faith ticket to get it done!

I’ve had all these bags of food sitting in our kitchen waiting on mylar bags and oxygen packets. Recently a friend went to the storehouse and brought us back the badly needed items.

I love the youth programs! I love the fact that poor Eve and Aurora lost their entire day off school due to the fact that by bagging all that food they could check off a Person Progress Value Project!
They bagged 425 lbs of food in mylar bags today!
Harrison (in case you don’t recognize the blond kid….more on that later) did heavy lifting and carrying for them. It feels good to get that food put up, thanks Bishop Krimme for the push we needed:-)

For Family Night we broached the topic of sexual purity. We try to stay on top of this, but it’s hard to remember how much the younger kids have gotten, and we don’t want anything falling through the cracks, especially on this topic. I had each kid cover their eyes (mostly for my benefit, I didn’t want to see their eyes rolling as we read the section for the For Strength of the Youth pamphlet. I did a little research for definitions on words my kids might not understand and found a great article, “Talking with your Children about Moral Purity” It’s from the 86 Ensign, but it helped a lot! We then gave each one a blank note card and assigned each a room to be alone in and said they could write whatever questions they had, it would all be anonymous and we would do our best to answer them. I didn’t expect any questions, and we didn’t get any, well unless you want to count “what would a rainbow look like in black and white?” a question. But it went well, and we should be good on that subject for a little while anyway!

    >I think it’s funny that you took pictures of everyone with their blindfolds. Too funny! I think it’s great that you try to stay “on top of” the sexual purity topic. It’s a hard one to address sometimes, but an important one to remember. Especially with teenagers. :)Harrison’s hair is super blonde! Whoa!It appears that the girls did an amazing job bagging all your food storage. What a great PP goal!

    >that cracks me up that you had them all wear blindfolds. i’m sure it definitely helped w/their awkward faces, as well as yours as you read! i’m going to make a mental note for about 10 years from now..
